Farewell Germany
A pub in New York, an organic farm in Australia – for many Germans, thoughts of starting a new life somewhere else often remain nothing more than an unrealised dream.
But those who really want to live that dream must bid farewell to Germany. More than 100,000 Germans leave the country every year – and the numbers are increasing.
More than half of these emigrants say their motivation is not self-fulfilment, but their search for a job.
In the five-part documentary‚ “Farewell to Germany” (beginning on 26 November), DW-TV introduces people who have dared to take that step and emigrate – to New Zealand, Canada, Namibia or China. Film crews accompanied the protagonists for almost a year, from the moment they packed their cases and said their goodbyes, to the first problems they encountered in their adoptive countries.
The films document the initial euphoria and high expectations, but also the fears and doubts that arose in a foreign culture – where there‘s often a fine line between success and failure.
Starting up in a foreign country – will it be a success ?
