Volkswagen will present the new Golf estate and the Passat BlueMotion for the first time in Germany

From 14th to 22nd April, Volkswagen will be presenting a fleet of innovative new models at the Auto Mobil International (AMI) in Leipzig.

The Golf estate and the Passat BlueMotion will rev up their engines for their German premieres during the show. Another technological highlight will be the Phaeton, which has been equipped with new technical features. The saloon will be the first car from the group equipped with a V6 TDI, an engine which already meets the Euro 5 standards due to be enforced from 2009.


The third generation of Golf

The third generation Golf estate will be in the spotlight during the show in Leipzig. With its 77 kW/105 PS TDI engine, it consumes a mere 5.2 litres of diesel over 100 kilometres. The Golf estate has a luggage capacity of 1,550 litres. The first vehicles will be delivered this summer. Prices will start from €17.600. The power ranges from 59 kW / 80 PS to 125 kW / 170 PS.

AMI - Premiere of the Passat BlueMotion

At the AMI, with the premiere of the Passat BlueMotion, Volkswagen will demonstrate that minimal levels of fuel consumption are also feasible in a higher classed vehicle. Although they can travel up to 193 km/h if necessary, the saloon version of the most economical Passat ever designed can run on just 5.1 litres of diesel or 5.2 litres for the Passat BlueMotion estate.

The Passat BlueMotion, which comes with a diesel particle filter as standard equipment and has an output of 77 kW / 105 PS, now saves 0.7 litres (for the estate) and 0.6 litres (saloon) when compared to the basic model. Until now, such levels of fuel economy could only be obtained by significantly smaller vehicles.

As well as consumption levels, CO2 emission levels have also fallen further: down to 136 g/km (- 15 g/km) for the saloon and 137 g/km (- 19 g/km) for the estate.

Phaeton V6 TDI.

Ready for the market in early summer, Volkswagen will be launching another technological highlight for diesel development: the Phaeton V6 TDI.

The 233 PS luxury class saloon meets the Euro 5 standards being introduced in 2009. These are only met by diesel vehicles which omit 80% fewer soot particles than the limits set in the current Euro 4 standards.

In addition, many new technical features have been designed for all versions of the Phaeton, like the stopping distance control "Front Assist", the lane change assistant "Side Assist", bi-xenon headlights with LED daylight driving lights and a navigation system now supported by DVD.

Show Highlight: The Golf Estate In Detail

For 45 years now, Volkswagen cars with extra large luggage areas – as long as they aren’t vans – have been known as estates. Up to now over 6.1 million estate models have been sold worldwide. Another distinguishing feature of the Golf estate is its perfect relationship between inner and outer size.

A Golf estate, even with five people on board, can carry 690 litres of luggage with the fitted luggage net (standard equipment from "Comfortline" upwards); there are still 505 litres available from the loading sill to the top of the window (without counting spare wheel well). As soon as the rear seat bench is folded down and all of the interior height (0.83m) is utilized, 1,550 litres of loading space is free to be filled.

A fusion of modern and classic stylistic features distinguishes the design. The rear end of the estate reveals a completely new side of the Golf. Whilst around half of each rear light is integrated into the tailgate on other body versions from this model range, on the Golf estate they are completely integrated into the wings. This visibly emphasizes the hatch’s large loading width.

For the market launch in the summer, Volkswagen will be offering the Golf estate with a petrol engine and two diesel engines. The petrol engine has an output of 75 kW / 102 PS. The Golf estate's two diesel engines are distinguished by an increased power output combined with exceptional economy: with 77 kW /105 PS and 103 kW / 140 PS, they are two of the most efficient engines ever.

The smaller of these two TDI runs on just 5.2 litres of fuel over 100 kilometres. What’s more, the larger TDI is just as economic as it is environmentally friendly: the Golf estate 2.0 TDI, which can travel up to 205 km/h, consumes just 5.6 litres. CO2 emissions: 148 g/km.
