And there is more: In order to be able to meet a modern event location’s increased demand in the future, construction of the future „Kolonnadenfluegel“ began in April 2010. This additional wing will increase the overall capacity by another 2,900 square meters of barrier-free space. This space can then be optimally divided into 6 rooms allowing several events to run in parallel.

Sustainability: Kassel meets demand and reality
The Green Globe certificate is the world’s most successful environmental certificate for the tourism and event sector. As Germany’s first city, Kassel meets the demand for sustainability thanks to the Kongress Palais which has been certified with the Green Globe certificate since September 2009. Therefore each event host can run their congress or conference with a clear conscience and with respecting the environment and sustainability requirements.
Thus it is not surprising that the second national congress „100% renewable energy regions“ and the Solar World Congress will be held – „befitting their rank“ - in the Kongress Palais in September 2010 and in 2011, respectively. Moreover, the German „Umweltpreis“ (price for environmental care) award will be organised in the Kongress Palais Kassel which represents another special recognition of the city’s environmental efforts.
It is proven: 40% of district heating are being saved per year, 100% natural electricity is being used and CO2 emissions are being reduced by 225 tons per year in Kassel. Through digital archives the processes are now more ecological, enormous amounts of paper are being saved and the disposal remains environmentally friendly. Through the certification process the Kongress Palais Kassel was examined following 150 criteria. In this context, the dealing with energy and resources was focused on as well as was the management.
Amongst others, scientific traceable indicators have been checked, like water consumption, emissions, waste and cleaning. Further, the inspectors checked on cultural engagement, complaint management, purchasing of fair trade products, recommendation of environmentally friendly restaurants for congress participants and employee trainings in the area of environmental protection.
The certification has therefore proven: Kassel is one of the top addresses in the area of conferences and events.
