Completely in the south of the area the weather stone mountains (course point 2963 m), northwest from it the Ammergauer alps (cross point 2185 m) lies, in the east the Karwendelgebirge and north pre-aged between Loisach and Isar is the ester mountains (Krottenkopf 2086 m)
All these mountains are parts of the northern lime alps, which predominantly consist of weather stone lime and main dolomite. Lech and Isar are the tributaries of the Danube.
 The Berchtesgaden country offers the freshness of winter as a classic vacation spot during the colder months. Join in winter hiking on 120 kilometers of cleared trails, curling at the frozen Hintersee, ice skating, tobogganing with natural wood toboggans on the artificial ice field at the Königssee, or even tobogganing on the very trails ridden by native Olympic champion, Georg Hackl.
With a trip on a horse-sleigh through the vast, snowy landscape or an evening torch-hike followed by a warm cottage gathering, you will experience the heart of winter without necessarily skiing once. Whether on or off skis, you'll find 50 kilometers of interesting slopes at altitudes from 600 to 1,874 meters in the Berchtesgaden country, as well as 61 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails.

The skiing scene knows very well Lenggries, dominated by the area's most prominent mountain. The Brauneck is sure to have snow and slopes to ski on from December till after Easter because of its altitude (peak 1700 m, valley 700 m) and to state-of-the-art snow making machines.
Brauneck is a popular spot, attracting many skiers: Experts like Hilde Gerg and Martina Ertl, as well as beginners and especially families come together. Brauneck offers children and learner slopes as well as a world cup slope.
